The year commenced for the Podmore Foundation in a very poignant way with the inaugural Brigadier Damian “Dolly” Roche golf day on 7 January. Many of Damian’s friends and supporters turned out on a
very warm day for a great round of golf at the Federal Golf Club.
A golf day would not be complete without ‘fines’ for the many minor infractions committed by the players. All for good cause though, and at the end of the day $1300 had been raised for the Brigadier Damian ’Dolly’ Roche Memorial Scholarship to support Isabella from Moree, NSW – Year 9 Student at Canberra Girls Grammar School. Hopefully, the Golf Day at the Federal Golf Club will be a permanent fixture on 7 January each year where family and friends can gather and raise a glass in Dolly’s memory.
The Podmore Foundation’s acting President, Mike Goodyear, Board Member Bob Breen and Communications Director Katherine Meagher enjoyed meeting Damian’s wife Tess and his family and friends on a day blessed by lovely weather and good company. Dolly would have revelled in it!
The Brigadier Damian “Dolly” Roche Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Dolly, who sadly passed away while playing golf with a couple of mates in January 2014. The scholarship, funded by Dolly’s widow, Tess, and close mate Glenn Crossland, is awarded to to Isabella from Moree, NSW who is boarding at Canberra Girls Grammar School.
