The Podmore Foundation announced a new scholarship for Peter, an Indigenous student from Harrison, ACT, to attend Canberra Grammar School in Year 7 this year.
The Podmore Foundation’s inaugural scholarship recipient at Canberra Grammar School (CGS), Kye, was featured in the CGS “Outlook” publication. Congratulations to Kye and his supporters, and a thank you to Podmore’s benefactors for helping Kye realise this opportunity!
At its Annual General Meeting in November 2016, the Duntroon Society’s board approved a Memorandum of Agreement with the Podmore Foundation to formalise a phalanthropic partnership between the two organisations. Mia, the recipient of the Podmore Foundation’s ADFA Graduates’ Association Scholarship, and this year’s recipient of the Professor Mick Dodson AM and Governor General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK, MC Scholarship for Leadership, represented Canberra Girls Grammar School at the Murama Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Summit on 16-17 October 2016.
This is the first time in the 8 years The Podmore Foundation has participated in the City2Surf that we were not standing at the start line FRRREEEEEEZZZZIINNNNNGGGG. Not a breath of wind and the sun was shining. Absolutely magic weather. No jumpers required as we warmed up, stretched, took photos, made new friends and enjoyed the loud music and atmosphere.
The Podmore Foundation and its motto of Returning Opportunity was recently featured in The Country Web newsletter, an annual publication produced by the Department of Primary Industries Rural Women’s Network. The article features the Podmore Foundation’s Spring Lunch in 2015 and its guest speaker, Jessa Rogers’s message: ”You are braver than you think and stronger than you seem. The journey of education is a wonderful one, one that will allow you choice in life and the ability to contribute much to your people.”
The Podmore Foundation was delighted to host its annual Scholarship Presentation Lunch on 5 June 2016 at the Royal Canberra Golf Club. Podmore thanks all of its supporters and benefactors for attending the Lunch to celebrate Returning Opportunity in good company, and most importantly for their ongoing support to Podmore’s scholarship recipients. On a cold and wet day, the Podmore Foundation welcomed its supporters and scholarship recipients and proudly presented scholarships to its eight scholarship recipients for 2016. The guest speaker, Melinda Mitchell, a lawyer for the Royal Australian Air Force, gave a powerful speech on her experiences with education, and working with indigenous communities. Scholarship certificates were presented by Major General Roger Powell (Ret’d).
