One Girl’s Story So Far

In 2010, Larissa from Mackay, Far North Queensland, was the first Indigenous girl to enroll as a boarder at Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS).

In 2014, Larissa will be the Year 11 Vice Captain of Glebe House and will seek consideration to captain Glebe House in Year 12 in 2015.

Her journey at CGGS has featured a number of milestones: captaining her netball team to two premierships; representing her school and the ACT at the National High Schools Basketball Championships; participating in a philanthropic expedition to Thailand/Laos; and receiving the Podmore Foundation’s Professor Mick Dodson and General Peter Cosgrove Scholarship for Leadership.

Larissa aspires to be a veterinarian and will have to meet the challenges of tough science subjects over the next two years.

Her mother Medina is proud of Larissa, whom she believes will become a young leader and role model for her family and community.
